Ronceverte Police DepartmentThe Ronceverte Police Department is here to ensure the safety and security of those who live and visit our city. The staff and officers strive to provide responsive, professional police services, working with the members of the community to build trust and to actively prevent crime. The Police Department serves an area of approximately seven (7) square miles and approximately 1800 residents. The department consists of five (5) full time and one (1) part time sworn members, one (1) part time police clerk, one (1) municipal court clerk and three (3) municipal court judges. The Ronceverte Police Department provides 24-hour coverage and our primary calls for service are received through the Greenbrier County 911 center. We remain committed to public safety and to implement innovative ways of better serving the public.


Just some of the narcotics K9 Jake found in 2008Asst. Chief J.R. Byer Jr. is assigned to our K-9 unit. The K-9 unit’s primary goal is to assist the department and other Officers in fighting narcotic crime in the municipality. In 2008 the K-9 unit was utilized eighty six (86) times. The K-9 unit seized an estimated street value of sixty eight thousand dollars (68,000) of narcotics in 2008. Ronceverte Police Departments K-9 unit is trained in narcotic and tracking and are certified with the West Virginia Police Canine Association and the North American Police Work Dog Association.

Ronceverte's K9 unit receives a $500 donation from the Ronceverte Lions ClubCpl. J.F. Bowyer is assigned to the D.A.R.E program, D.A.R.E stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education. This program is taught to students at the Ronceverte Elementary School. The Ronceverte D.A.R.E program is funded entirely through donations from business’s and citizens. Cpl. J.F. Bowyer teaches an average of seventy five (75) students a year.
 
The department also participates in Neighborhood Watch, DUI prevention, Safety programs, (i.e., Child Car Seat installation, Operation Child ID, Southern Highway Safety Program and Click It or Ticket). Ronceverte Police Department has up to date vehicles consisting of Four Wheel Drive Sports Utility, and Chevy Impalas. All vehicles are equipped with in car video cameras, lap top computers and assault rifles (AR-15’s). All Officers are equipped with up to date equipment such as new ballistic armor and Smith & Wesson M&P 45 cal. handguns. The Ronceverte Police Department also has in its fleet a mobile crime scene unit that is used for all major crimes in the municipality and also has been used to assist surrounding Police agencies with major crime scenes.
